300: Rise of an Empire - VFX (2013)

Here are some of the shots I worked on as a VFX artist at MPC on 300: Rise of an Empire. On this show I was responsible for the rain across many shots, this may sound like it would have been a easy task to some extent but there was a lot of transitions in and out of slow motion which required thousands of frames in some cases to be simulated. I also did quite a few shots in which characters were stabbed or slashed resulting in a need for slow motion VFX blood. Creating the slow motion blood FX forced me to explore fluids and particles and emitting fluids from particles to get the best result in some cases.

This was a incredibly fun show to work on and I'm very grateful for being a part of such a awesome and talented team.

This shot shows some of the rain, tens of millions of drops have to be emitted to cover the camera area as well as cover the camera moves that turn in different directions and look off into the horizon.

Here is another shot of the rain on a larger scale in the distance. Its layered with more than one sim to give it a natural effect.

This is one of the shots I worked on for the blood fx. The shaping is actually one of the hardest things. Making blood just spew out is easy but having it form a appealing shape that doesn't interrupt the camera can be challenging.
